Another hyped device that is claimed to be an energy saver that reduces electric bill.
Is this true?
I’m an electrical engineer, and in this honest StopWatt review will tell you the truth about these claims (with the evidence from their website!), if it is worth it to buy this device, and what alternatives to StopWatt Energy Saver are out there the really save electricity.
Important Note: You could eliminate your electric bill almost entirely like thousands of American home owners did without paying anything from your pocket with the solution in the last section of this review below!

Summary: StopWatt is not proven to work on reducing electric bill, and the claims used about how it works on saving and redirecting wasted energy are vague and misleading.
I will show you an evidence from the StopWatts website that it doesn’t work as advertised.

What Is StopWatt Energy Saver?
StopWatt is a device that is advertised as a plug-in device that you can use at home, office, workshop, or anywhere you have electric appliances, by capturing and redirecting the electricity that otherwise would be wasted and you would be billed for anyway.
And it is claimed that the StopWatt device regulates the voltage and current in order to protect your electrical appliances from spikes and irregularities.
There are many power saver devices that are sold based on similar claims, such as the Uber Watts energy saver that I exposed in a previous review.
Does StopWatt really work, or is it just another scam that is after your money?
This is what will discuss next.
How Does StopWatt Work?
StopWatt is explained to work on doing the following in order to reduce electric bill:
- You plug in StopWatt to a socket outlet, and using a solution that is based on a cutting-edge power optimization technology, StopWatt works to streamline, straighten, and recapture electric energy that would otherwise be wasted, but you would still be billed for. (This is a lie!)
- After that, StopWatt will redirect this wasted electricity making the overall usage go lower.
- Your electric will be lowered as a result.
StopWatt Exposed!
The claims about how StopWatt works for reducing electric bill are unrealistic and misleading.
I explained in detail in an earlier article that this kind of power savers don’t really work, but I will explain briefly here about StopWatt in particular.
In short:
The electric power you receive at home has two main components:
- Active power that does the hard work such as giving lighting, heating water, operating electronics and charging devices, moving the motors in pumps, fridges, AC, …etc. And this is the part that you actually get billed for, and Stop Watt DOES NOT reduce this energy.
- Reactive power that is responsible for creating a magnetic field for motors in pumps, fridges, AC, …etc. But this part of energy is NOT measured by the utility meter and you don’t get billed for it, and this is what StopWatt reduces.
As you can see, StopWatt works like the capacitors that are sold to reduce electric bill for home and small consumers, but I explained in details that capacitors don’t reduce electric bill for home.
They are misleading you by telling you that StopWatt saves the energy that is wasted and you get billed for.
Want a Better Evidence That StopWatt Doesn’t Work?
On one of the sales pages on StopWatts.com, they actually confess that the claims made about its ability to lower electric bill are not proven, and that there’s no guarantee that you can save a dime using the StopWatt electricity saver.
What about Other Stop Watt Claims?
In addition to the unproven claim of saving energy and lower bills, it is claimed that StopWatt regulates the voltage and protects your appliances from spikes that could cause overheating to devices, and might shorten their lifespan.
This too is not proven, and I don’t recommend buying any of these plug-in devices that claim to save electricity and protect appliances from voltage surges.
There are many of these devices that are sold with different names, and they all give misleading information about how they work, but none of them can really reduce your electric bill as they say.
If you live in an area close to big factories, or where lots of lightning strikes happen, and you want to protect your devices, then you better consult a qualified electrician about the need to install a surge protector in your main electric panel, which is manufactured by well-known companies such as Siemens and Eaton.
Chances are that you already have one installed in your panel.
StopWatt Price & Discount
The StopWatt device is sold for a one-time payment of $39.95, and you need to pay around $6.95 for shipping and handling.
If you buy two units, you get a discount and free shipping where you pay only $59.95 for both units.
And if you buy three units, you pay around $79.95.
Is StopWatt Worth it?
No, StopWatt is not worth buying based on the claims that it can save money on your electric bill, as these claims are unsubstantiated.
There are many legit devices that can lower electric bill, but StopWatt is not included with them.
StopWatt Refund and Return Policy
The nice thing about StopWatt is that it comes with a 60-day money back guarantee, where you can contact them to return the device and get a refund.
However, I still don’t recommend that you waste your time as you will just get disappointed.

Who Is StopWatt for?
StopWatt is NOT for anyone who wants to save on electricity bill, nor for anyone who wants to protect their appliances from voltage spikes.

StopWatt Support
As I mentioned earlier, if you want to contact the StopWatts support team to request information or for a refund, you can do that through any of the three methods available on their site:
- Phone.
- Email.
- Live chat.
Conclusion – Is StopWatt a Scam or Legit?
I wouldn’t call StopWatt a scam just because they offer a 100% money back guarantee.
But I consider it unworthy device to purchase as it won’t save you money as claimed, and they actually admitted that on their website as I showed you earlier in this StopWatt review.
Don’t waste your time with StopWatt or any of the similar devices that are sold under different names such as: EnergySaver Pro, OkoWatt, EcoWatt, MiracleWatt, PowerVolt, …etc.

I’m eighty one years old and learned that it would take me at least eight years to get my “purchase” money back from solar panels.. And then there are the programs that basically allow me to rent out my roof in exchange for “some” savings. And then there’s the aesthetics of all those wonderful panels on my roof. And life expectancy questions about solar panels that are vaguely answered.
Scam anyone? I look forward to my comments not making it to your site.
George Bell
The life expectancy ranges from 20-30 years for solar panels depending on the manufacturer.
The payback period depends on the cost of the system, its efficiency, how regular it is cleaned in case you live in a dusty area, and it depends on how expensive electricity in your area is.
The scenario might differ even between two neighbors who have similar consumption and identical house structure, but one has shade over a part of the roof die to high trees wile the other doesn’t have this thing.
You need someone to assess the situation for your house in particular.
Amjad
Please do not throw your money away on this item. Absolutely nothing changed. I’ve had mine for a year, & I finally tossed it.
Thank you Roxanne for your feedback about the StopWatt device!
I hope everyone will read your comment before they buy it.
Amjad
Thanks for the feedback Roxanne! It saved me money and time.
Amjad seems to be well experienced, I’m glad that I found this website before I buy the StopWatt device.
Thanks a lot for your help Amjad.
John
Also, in the fine print of the purchase page, there is a deceptively constructed Opt Out box – if you do not select it you will begin receiving “Home and Lifestyle” magazines which will cost you $9.95 on the credit card provided per month after 60 days.
Additionally, according to their privacy policy, providing your personal information (necessary to purchase) you grant them permission to provide the information to their partners who will have permission to email, text and even call you with automated dialers even if you are on a do not call list.
I think while the device is a misleading thing, the real scam is the collection of your data and the sign up for magazines.
Thank you William for your helpful comment!
I didn’t notice the default subscription for the magazines and the selling of customers’ personal data.
It seems they are trying to squeeze as much money as they can from everyone they get into their sales funnel, sadly.
I hope everyone stays away from such products that don’t do them any good.
Thanks again!
Amjad
What they don’t mention is the fact that in newer homes, each room is on a different circuit. If you plugged Stop Watt into one circuit it would have no effect on other circuits. Also, in my home, things like , washer, dryer, range, double oven, and refrigerator, are all on separate circuits. The hot water heater is hard wired on a separate circuit.
Hello Tom and thank you for your comment!
Actually, it wouldn’t work even if you place one on each circuit, or if the whole house was on one circuit.
Amjad
I strongly considered buying one of these; but first things first, I checked for scam info.
Thank you for your diligence in researching this for me. Now I can save even more money by not purchasing this.
Linda
Thank you Linda for your comment!
I am glad that my review of the StopWatt device has helped you save the time and money. Unfortunately, many people rush to buy such devices without taking the time to find unbiased reviews online.
Amjad
I bought 2 stopwatts and they have not saved me anything in fact my electric bill has gone up to$ 277.00 a month for only the light bill
Thank you Linda for taking the time to give your feedback about the StopWatt “energy saver” in order to help others who area reading this review before they waste their time and money.
Unfortunately, it seems that a lot of people have been misled into buying such devices that don’t really save any money on the electric bill, as opposed to legit electricity saving devices for home that work.
Amjad
Thanks for the review, it actually caught my eye on my own website as an ad! lol. so I clicked then I researched and found this website. Thanks for explaining thoroughly how it doesn’t work and what does work! Great Article
Thank you Dino for your feedback!
I’m glad that you found my review helpful.
Amjad
I bought two and they did not save me a penny! Full of S**T!!!
Thank you Robert for your feedback!
Amjad
I installed one unit at an outlet right next to the circuit breaker and the other in the kitchen (furthest point from breaker box. After one full year of checking electric monthly statements, I see absolutely NO change in usage. The only change that I see is that the manifold power companies have steadily raised their rates per killowatt.
Thank you for your feedback Joseph!
Unfortunately, many people have purchased the StopWatt and other similar devices and they never reduced their bill with any of such devices, and it is not their mistake.
It is the fact that some marketers and websites promote these devices based on unrealistic and unscientific claims just so that they can get some commission on every unit they get people to buy.
There are many devices that can help lower your electric bill, but they should be clear on how they work, like the ones I mentioned in my list of electricity saving devices for homes.
Thank you again!
Amjad
Thank you for your valuable research, that undoubtably has saved me time and $$.
Hello Randy and thank you for your feedback!
I’m glad that you found this review of StopWatt helpful.
Amjad
Yeah the power companies don’t have meter readers anymore so they average. I’m single and huddle around a LED light and computer in my basement.. there’s no way I use 900 kwh! I barely break 400kwh on a good month…. but see they don’t actually charge your usage, they charge you an “average” of usage. Which is fraud. I confronted my electric company and it was off by 300 percent just this year!! Decades this takes place! They are always apologetic and give me a rebate, but, it starts right back up again!? They bill more to make up for my complaint/refund… ugh! you can’t keep overbilling!! Then they bolt down the water meter so it can’t be read… ugh.. Why? oh well just read my sentence before this one!
Hello Alex,
I don’t know where you live or what company you are buying electricity from, but there should be a way to either move to one of their competitors, or, complain to a governmental authority that is responsible for organizing the energy sector.
