DIY Home Energy Review

Because I have experience with solar panel systems from my work as an electrical engineer, someone asked me the other day: is the DIY Home Energy system legit? Can it cut 75% of your bill, or should I avoid it.

I researched the program by Jeff Davis, and I saw many reviews that are just telling you to buy it without adding anything to what is said in the sales video, and that’s why I decided to write this honest and unbiased DIY Home Energy System review.

You will know here if it was viable for you to build your own solar system, or if you should consider my recommended alternative in the last section below.

Without further ado, let’s jump in!

Summary: DIY Home Energy System uses makes you believe that you can get up and running with a solar system for your home in few hours, but from my experience as a solar engineer, that’s not the case.

Calculations, sizing, and installation take time, not to mention that you need the utility company approval if you want to connect the solar system to your home that is connected to the utility.

All these require proper knowledge and technical skills, which need an experienced professional to do.

What Is The DIY Home Energy System?

The DIY Home Energy System is a complete course that is supposed to teach you how to make and install solar panels to feed your home with electricity, and cut your electric bill by up to 75% within the next 30 days, and even go off-grid and power your home completely with it, even at night.

Do-it-Yourself Solar and Wind Energy System

  • Eric Layton, an engineer in the solar industry who installs solar panels, wrote this guide for readers that are trying to build their own solar or wind system.

  • Eric A. Layton received a Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering degree from the University of Florida with an extensive understanding of solar power, bioenergy, and sustainable solutions.

Jeff Davis, the founder of the DIY Home Energy course says that he has already created his own solar panel system for a low cost compared to what a specialized company would charge, and that he now gets the free energy from the sun, and sometimes even pumps the excess amount to the utility company and gets paid for it.

How Does DIY Home Energy System Work?

DIY Home Energy System is supposed to show you, in a step-by-step procedure, how to:

  • Calculate the sizing of the necessary solar energy system for your home.
  • Purchase the necessary material to make your own solar panels from scratch, at a low cost.
  • Assemble the solar PV panel component to make it ready for use.
  • Assemble a complete system and connect it to your home’s electric panel, and operate the system.
  • Install the necessary devices, batteries, in order to still have electricity even when the grid goes down.

The result would be to get electrical energy generated from solar panels during the day, in an amount that exceeds your needs, and you would give the additional amount of energy to the grid, and at night, you would get the same amount from the grid in order to power your home’s appliances.

How DIY Home Energy System Works

And even if the grid goes down, you can still power your home with the batteries that store energy for you enough to supply your home without the grid.

But are these claims true? Or is the DIY Home Energy System a hoax?

This is what we will see next.

Does The DIY Home Energy System Work?

Now to be honest, the training material and the sizing calculator inside the DIY Home Energy program might be good and useful.

But honestly, I don’t think that you can make and connect your solar panel system in few hours, or even days.

And I don’t think it would be as costly efficient as Jeff Davis makes you think.

Regarding The Sizing & Design of a Solar System

There are many factors that get in the design phase, like the area you live in, the dust patterns, the radiation levels, orientation of the roof of your home, its inclination and area, the location relative to other houses in the area, any shading objects, …etc.

And these all require a precise assessment and calculations in order to get to the final design for the system that is ready to build in order to give you full supply of electricity for all of your home’s needs.

And all of that requires experienced professionals who had already been trained, and have been working on designing, installing, and maintaining solar energy systems for years.

You can’t just design it with teh calculator that you get in the DIY Home Energy system alone.

Regarding The Assembly Works

Making your own solar panels from scratch is not a simple task.

In addition to being handy with tools, these panels need to go certain testing procedures that are necessary to insure the performance and the endurance of solar panels under difficult conditions.

You don’t want, god forbid, one of the panels to fall off and hit someone because of a strong wind.

Also, to connect your system to the grid, you need to the approval of the utility company, and you need the right connection device that is called the inverter, which converts DC electricity generated by the panels into AC electricity.

And all of these things also require someone professional and certified in order to complete them properly.

What about Saving Money with DIY Home Energy System by Jeff Davis?

First of all, if you want to make panels and install a system that is highly reliable like the ones installed by specialized solar companies, you need to spend a lot of money on trying and improving, and on testing, until you reach the same quality.

Yes, the specialized company adds their profit to the material and the manpower costs, but overall, because they work in bulk, they can get good deals and they can give you a system that is cheaper than what it would cost you if you were to do it all by yourself.

I don’t believe that you can “slash” the cost of installing a solar system by 85% if you do it all by yourself.

And if you are still worried, then let me tell you that you can install a complete solar system by a professional company with $0 down payment!

I call these DIY Home Energy scam reviews, because they were not written by professionals who know what they are talking about.

Unfortunately, this is the same with all other programs like the DIY Dish System scam I exposed earlier.

Even the websites where most of these reviews are not specialized in saving on electric bill or solar energy.

I’m an electrical engineer with experience in solar energy systems, and my website here specializes in ways to help you save on utility bills.

Cons:

  • Unrealistic regarding installing and connecting a system to a house powered by the grid within few hours, including making the panels by yourself from scratch.
  • It can be unsafe to make your own panels and install them without any professional experience.
  • Exaggerating claims of lowering the cost of installing the system by 85% compared to hiring a professional company.
  • No user testimonials to be found.
  • Many scammy reviews that tell you to buy it that are not written by specialized people.

Who Is DIY Home Energy System for?

You can get the DIY Home Energy system if you are curious to see what is inside it as it has a 60-day money back guarantee, but I don’t believe that you can install a complete system that is safe and reliable by yourself.

And I don’t believe that you can save a lot of money by doing so.

If you want to install a full reliable system even without paying a dime, then check out the alternative solution in the last section of this review.

DIY Home Energy Support

The support for the DIY Home Energy system is provided through the email in their “Contact” page.

But if you want to get a refund on the program, then you need to contact the retailer, ClickBank, as instructed in the confirmation email you got when you purchased the program.

Conclusion – Is DIY Home Energy a Scam?

No, DIY Home Energy is not a scam, but also don’t believe that it is feasible, safe, or reliable to create your own solar panels and install a complete system without any professional experience and without the right tools.

This is my conclusion to my DIY Home Energy system review.

The good thing is that it comes with a money back guarantee, which makes it safe to purchase, but not to try to build the system in my opinion.
